Hear me out—a Girls Getaway Weekend, but make it bookish!
There are so many options available for all budgets and timeframes. Get away with your besties and enjoy what you love together. If this sounds like your idea of a good time, I have some suggestions for you!
Retreats are Treats
I just spent such a 3-day weekend with two of my friends. We do this twice a year, and we so look forward to it. We rented a home in our city with a pool and chilled out together. We read, we talked, we ate, we swam. We went to a tearoom nearby for lunch one of the days. We binge watched the last season of Bridgerton. We reconnected, and it was top tier. We didn’t spend a ton of money but had a blast!
Years ago when we belonged to a writer’s group, we would go with our group to a mountain cabin at lest once per year. We had about 8-10 people, and did much the same as my above-mentioned retreat with a focus on discussing our writing projects. If you belong to a book club or writer’s group, consider having a retreat like this. When the cost is split, it’s a fun and economical way to spend time with bookish friends and get to know them.
Here are some other ideas for a Bookish Retreat/Day Out:
Bookstore crawls- no need to rent a house for this one! Do a bookstore crawl with your besties by checking out all the bookstores in the area. Then have a nice lunch out.
Book Club meeting with a side of fun- Rent a house and for your book club for the weekend, and have the meeting one afternoon. You can be comfortable in your lounging clothes, and have snacks and beverages while you meet. Then have a dinner catered in that evening, or watch a movie that was made from a popular book, then discuss.
Themed hotels or vacation rentals- If you want a next level experience, rent a room or cabins at a themed property. There are castles, caves, treehouses, or maybe a Game of Thrones or Harry Potter themed house! A little research turns up some fascinating places to stay.
Like Ancient Lore Village in Knoxville, Tennessee. Reminiscent of a Hobbit Shire village, they host special events, have games and activities, and fine dining, all in a lush forest setting.
Or Uhuburgh Castle in Helen, Georgia. Definitely a castle experience. They even have swordsmanship classes!
Fantasy Balls Galore- Fantasy Balls or Masquerades are becoming popular, such as The Frost Fire Ball in Nashville. It’s a weekend experience with events each day and evening, including a kickoff party, a vendor and author faire, and of course, a costume ball. Or perhaps Starfall Masquerade, in Toronto, Canada- drinks, dancing, entertainment, even waltz lessons! Searching for Fantasy Balls should bring up any coming to your area.
It’s easy to plan a fun and special Bookish Retreat when you use a little creativity. What type of book-themed getaways have you attended? Any you’d like to do?
